SIZE
15" diameter x 11" tall

DESCRIPTION
Bombastic blue. Very decorative and highly sought. Mostly floral design but does include a horse and rider. Here we have an original label-- a rare thing in early bandboxes. Catherine Lynn (Wallpaper in America, 1980) had done a clever records search to unearth 1840's bandbox makers in New York City. Samuel Lazarus' Mill St. shop was not apparently found. We know Lazarus made this box. We don't know if he also blocked the paper. Sometimes the paper-makers and box-makers were different guys. Sometimes not.

Acquired from an old DC estate collection that dates back to the 1960s

CONDITION
Well traveled. Also well loved and there are various old repairs. Any issues are evident in the photos. 180 year old wallpaper that traveled on stage coaches. It's a miracle these things survive in any condition. Please examine the photos carefully. The photos tell the story.
