Italian Renaissance Leather Document Box cf 16th cent

$0.00

SIZE
5 x 9 x 9” tall

DESCRIPTION
Fine and elaborate tooling with polychrome trumpeting angles and myriad Gothic motifs. Coat of arms with balls and the fleur d’lis on back reference House of Medici. The rosettes resemble the early stain glasses at various European cathedrals such as Notre Dame and Chartre. Beautiful early chased/stamped brassware. Condition notwithstanding, this little box appears to be an object of classic Florentine Renaissance art.

CONDITION
Leather obviously corroded but sturdy and stable. Interior is quite good and original. Everything that makes this a work of art is still present.
