DESCRIPTION
Little cardstock portrait typical of Prior/Hamblen School. The attribution to Prior is made on the basis of the pencil script on back. Sitter is Identified as Orval Powell, suggesting the sitter is a boy (despite the dress). The handwriting (especially the letter “P” is consistent with other identified examples of WMP’s hand writing.

Size of board is interestingly small. Most Prior School portraits were done on roughly 10 x 13” formats. This foundation was clipped at the corners and possibly a remnant that was eventually used to give a client a budget priced portrait.

CONDITION
Never cleaned; good and original as found.
