Large American Country House Sampler w/ Great Period Frame-- 1837

$0.00

SIZE
20 1/2 x 21" (frame); 17 1/2 x 18 1/2 (sight)

DESCRIPTION
Large sampler. Looks American and nothing to indicate otherwise. Maker Elizabeth Harrison was better at needlework than spelling. Work is charmingly naive. Federal period house with 6 pane sashes and unusual blue roof. Dogs, birds, large flower pot and strawberry border. Period yellow pine frame (southern?); spline construction on corners; terrific original reddish finish with excellent surface and grungy patina. All in all a very splashy and decorative wall piece with great country flavor.

CONDITION
A bit tatty especially around the edges. Some photos included outside of frame tell the story. It was conserved with old material around the edges so it is sturdy and the damage is fairly innocuous. Original wood backboard on frame was insulated with a piece of acid free mounting board. Please examine the photos carefully.
