Fraktur by Johannes Spangenberg, aka., Easton Bible Artist 1802

$0.00

SIZE
11 x 12 1/2 including frame

DESCRIPTION
Almost never signed-- but classic rendering and iconography by Northampton County School Teacher Johannes Ernst Spangenberg (1755-1814). Long known as the "Easton Bible Artist" his identity was revealed in the 1970s through a rare signed example in the Smithsonian.

Excellent Period frame. Cleverly displayed such that early family inscription on back is visible.

This is a very nice double book plate example by one of the more sought after fraktur artists of Southeastern PA. Spangenberg frakturs are hard to find and come up for sale only rarely and always w/ exorbitant price tags.

CONDITION
Without digging into this nice frame job I can see some foxing and just a little tattiness around the margins. Aside from this decent solid condition with no obvious repairs. Please examine the photos carefully. The photos tell the story.
