SIZE
7 x 9” (sight); 9 1/2 x 11 1/2” (frame)

DESCRIPTION
Ref: Lisa Minardi (“Drawn with Spirit, 2015: pp 339). The so called Reading Artist is known from several dozen water color portraits from Berks and Lebanon County circa 2nd quarter 19th cent. He/she used two basic formats: full length subject in an interior room with a window or (less often) subject outdoors in a garden with fence or tree. This one follows the typical format with subject identified on lower panel using embellished penmanship. In addition most Reading Artist portraits are approximately 7- 7 1/2” x 9- 9 1/2” with double line border. Original curly maple frame with morticed corners, thin wavy glass, and backboard. Ex. Ohio collection.

CONDITION
Condition is excellent with minor foxing. I was able to examine the interior which allowed insertion of an acid-free partition between the wood and paper. There was bit of illegible quill scribble at the top of the paper— but alas, no signature. See photos
