Philadelphia Dishtop Stand w/ Bird Cage c. 1780

$0.00

SIZE
19 1/2 diameter; 25 3/4” tall

DESCRIPTION
Either mahogany or Black walnut its hard to tell because it retains old if not original surface. Classic Philladelphia ball and ring plinth. Most of these are in museums and books. The form of this one is actually more elegant than many published examples. The key for the bird cage is unique being cylindrical /tapered. Most are triangular wedges. The only other I’ve seen like this is shown in photo 4 which is ex Phil Bradley. Its very effective and possibly esoteric to this maker.

The other thing that distinguishes this one is the small size. I’ve never seen another one this small. Most are larger than 20” diameter.

CONDITION
A bit rough but untouched. Various issues would benefit some TLC by someone that really knows how to restore antiques.
