DESCRIPTION
Wood & Son with shell border. The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad  was built to traverse the Allegheny Mountains and in 1827 it became the first U.S. railway chartered for the commercial transportation of freight and passengers. This plate depicts the "incline" version. 

CONDITION
Light use-wear. The flaw on back-side edge is a glaze abrasion which lies along the edge of a broader shallow manufacture flaw which has original factory overglaze. Otherwise, good condition with no cracks or repairs.
